Why a Checklist Beats a Long Explanation
Most Filipino players I talk to don't need a 3,000-word dissertation on casino bonus terms. They need a fast, reliable filter. Something they can scan in 60 seconds before hitting Claim. That's what this is. A 10-point checklist, built from years of watching promos come and go on local and offshore sites. Run through it every single time, even if the bonus looks familiar. Terms change quietly. The checklist doesn't.
If you only remember one thing: the wagering requirement is the true price of the bonus. Not the headline number. A ₱5,000 bonus with a 40x rollover is not free money. It's a contract. And like any contract, the devil hides in the fine print. This checklist drags that devil into the light.
1. Find the Wagering Multiplier (and What It Multiplies)
The first number to hunt down is the playthrough multiplier, usually written as 30x, 40x, or 50x. But here's the trap: 30x what? It could be the bonus amount alone. It could be bonus plus deposit. Some sneaky ones use bonus plus deposit plus any winnings generated. That last one is rare but it exists. Always ask: 30x on what base?
Example: You deposit ₱1,000 and get a ₱1,000 bonus. If the requirement is 30x bonus, you need to wager ₱30,000. If it's 30x (deposit + bonus), you need ₱60,000. Same headline number, double the work. Check the base before you check anything else.
Quick math you can do in your head
Bonus amount × multiplier = total wagering. If that number makes you wince, the bonus is probably not for you. Trust the wince.
2. Check the Game Weighting Table
Not all games count equally toward wagering. Slots usually contribute 100%. Live casino games, table games, and video poker often contribute 10% or less. Some sites exclude them entirely. This matters because a 30x requirement on slots becomes a 300x requirement on baccarat if the weighting is 10%. That's a different beast altogether.
Before you play, find the weighting table. It's almost always buried in the bonus terms, not on the promo page. If you can't find it, assume the worst. Then decide if the bonus still makes sense.
- Slots: 100% (typical)
- Live casino: 0–20%
- Table games: 5–20%
- Video poker: 0–10%
If you're a slots player, most bonuses are built for you. If you prefer live dealer, most bonuses are not. That's not a moral judgment, just math.
3. Note the Maximum Bet During Wagering
Nearly every bonus comes with a max bet rule. Usually it's ₱100 to ₱500 per spin or hand. Exceed it, and the casino can void your bonus and any winnings. This is one of the most common ways players get burned. They hit a hot streak, increase their bet, and accidentally break the rule. Suddenly the ₱20,000 win is gone.
Set a mental limit before you start. If the max bet is ₱200, never go above it. Not even once. The casino doesn't care that you forgot. The terms are the terms.
"I didn't know" is not a valid appeal. The max bet rule is enforced by software, not by human sympathy.
4. Identify the Time Limit
Bonuses expire. Usually in 7, 14, or 30 days. Some are as short as 72 hours. If you can't complete the wagering in time, the bonus and its winnings vanish. This is especially brutal for high-multiplier bonuses. A 50x requirement with a 7-day window is almost impossible for a casual player. You'd need to wager thousands per day.
Check the clock before you claim. If you have a full-time job and a family, be honest about how much you can play. A smaller bonus with a longer window is often better than a big bonus you can't finish.
5. Look for Sticky vs. Non-Sticky Bonuses
A sticky bonus is one where the bonus amount is not withdrawable. You can play with it, win with it, but when you request a payout, the bonus portion is removed. Only your winnings (and sometimes only a capped portion) are yours. A non-sticky bonus, also called a cashable bonus, is withdrawable after wagering. Non-sticky is almost always better for the player.
How to tell: read the terms. If it says the bonus is "for wagering purposes only" or "non-withdrawable," it's sticky. If it says the bonus converts to cash after playthrough, it's non-sticky. When in doubt, ask support. Get the answer in writing.
6. Scan for Maximum Cashout Caps
Some bonuses limit how much you can withdraw from bonus winnings. A ₱1,000 bonus might have a ₱5,000 max cashout. That means even if you turn it into ₱50,000, you only get ₱5,000. The rest disappears. This is common on no-deposit bonuses and free spins, but it can appear on deposit bonuses too.
If the cap is low, treat the bonus as entertainment, not as a real opportunity. If the cap is high or nonexistent, the bonus is more attractive. Always compare the cap to the wagering requirement. A 40x bonus with a ₱10,000 cap is very different from a 40x bonus with no cap.
7. Verify Eligible Payment Methods
Not all deposit methods qualify for bonuses. E-wallets like GCash, Maya, and GrabPay are popular in the Philippines, but some casinos exclude them from bonus eligibility. Others exclude certain cards or bank transfers. If you deposit with an ineligible method, you might not get the bonus at all, or you might get it but with different terms.
Check the banking page or the bonus terms for a list of eligible methods. If you're using a method that's not listed, assume it won't count. Don't deposit first and ask later. That's how you end up with a bonus you can't use.
8. Confirm Whether Winnings from Free Spins Are Capped or Weighted
Free spins are often bundled with deposit bonuses. But the winnings from those spins may have separate terms. Some casinos cap free spin winnings at ₱500 or ₱1,000. Others require you to wager the winnings 20x or 30x before withdrawing. And some free spins only work on specific slots, which may have their own weighting.
If the bonus includes free spins, read the free spin terms separately. Don't assume they're the same as the main bonus. They rarely are.
Common free spin traps
- Winnings capped at a low amount
- Wagering requirement applied to winnings, not the spin value
- Spins expire in 24–48 hours
- Only valid on one or two slot titles
9. Test the Withdrawal Process Before You Need It
You don't want to discover a problem when you're trying to cash out. Before you claim a bonus, do a small test withdrawal if possible. Or at least read recent player reviews about withdrawal speed and reliability. Some casinos are fast and clean. Others delay, request endless documents, or find excuses to void winnings. A bonus is only as good as the casino's payout reputation.
Check forums, review sites, and social media groups. Filipino players are active online, and they share their experiences. If a casino has a pattern of not paying, no bonus is worth the risk. Not even a 500% match.
10. Calculate the Expected Value (or Just Use This Shortcut)
Expected value (EV) is a rough estimate of what a bonus is worth after wagering. You don't need a spreadsheet. Here's a shortcut: if the wagering requirement is above 40x and the game has a house edge above 4%, the EV is likely negative. You'll lose more than the bonus is worth over the long run. If the requirement is 20x or lower on a high-RTP slot, the EV can be positive or close to break-even.
This isn't about beating the casino. It's about not fooling yourself. A bonus with a 50x requirement and a 5% house edge is not a gift. It's a grind. If you enjoy the grind, fine. If you're expecting free money, you'll be disappointed.
Use this quick rule: Wagering multiplier × house edge = effective cost. If that cost is higher than the bonus amount, you're paying for the privilege.
Putting the Checklist to Work
Print it, screenshot it, or keep it open in a tab. The next time you see a flashy bonus, run through all 10 points. Most bonuses will fail at least two or three. That's normal. The ones that pass are worth your time. The ones that don't are just noise.
Remember, the Philippine online casino market is competitive. Casinos want your play. They'll offer bonuses that look generous. Your job is to see through the wrapping. A checklist won't make you a professional, but it will keep you from being a sucker. And in this game, not being a sucker is already a win.
